What is the difference between AS and A-level?+

AS Level is assessed through two papers. The full A-level includes Further Pure Mathematics 1 and 2, Further Mechanics and Further Probability & Statistics across four papers.

What prior knowledge does Cambridge expect?+

Cambridge expects candidates to have studied the majority of the Mathematics 9709 syllabus. The applied components also rely on the corresponding mechanics or probability and statistics content from 9709.

Can my child use a calculator?+

A scientific calculator is allowed. Graphical calculators and calculators with symbolic algebra or symbolic differentiation and integration are not permitted. The MF19 formulae and statistical tables booklet is provided.

Why does my child need to show working?+

Cambridge states that unsupported calculator answers receive no marks. Clear working protects method marks and makes errors easier to find.

Is there any coursework?+

No. All four components are externally assessed written examinations, and all questions are compulsory.

Can lessons support schoolwork and exam preparation?+

Yes. Weekly lessons can follow the school's current topic while keeping a separate plan for syllabus gaps, mixed questions and timed papers.
