Cambridge A-level IT is assessed across four externally-marked papers. AS Level uses Papers 1 and 2; the full A-level adds Papers 3 and 4, with AS content assumed. Each level pairs one theory paper with one hands-on practical paper.

Saving work in the wrong format loses the marks for that task. Producing IT solutions (AO2) is 50% of the A-level. Grades are A*-E at A-level and a-e at AS. Exams run June and November, with March in India.

Questions parents ask about Cambridge A‑level IT
Which papers does my child sit for Cambridge A-level IT?+-
Four: Paper 1 (Theory), Paper 2 (Practical), Paper 3 (Advanced Theory) and Paper 4 (Advanced Practical). AS Level uses Papers 1 and 2 only.
How much of it is practical?+-
Half - the two practical papers are 50% of the A-level. They are done at a computer with resource files, and work is submitted electronically.
What does the advanced practical cover?+-
Data analysis and visualisation, graphics creation, animation and programming for the web with JavaScript, alongside spreadsheet and database skills from the AS content.
How is it graded?+-
A* to E at A-level, and a to e at AS Level.
Is this the same as Computer Science?+-
No. IT (9626) is about applying technology to produce solutions; Computer Science (9618) is about programming and computational theory. They cannot be taken as a combined pair in one series.
When are the exams?+-
June and November series, with an additional March series in India. The practical papers have a set window, so check the timetable for your zone.
