How is Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science assessed?+

Two equally-weighted papers, 100% external: Paper 1 (Principles of Computer Science, a two-hour written exam) and Paper 2 (Application of Computational Thinking, a three-hour on-screen practical).

What does the practical paper involve?+

Students carry out programming tasks on a computer over three hours, writing and saving real code, using one language throughout - Python, C# or Java.

Which programming language should my child use?+

Whichever their school teaches, from Python, C# or Java. It must be used consistently across the practical. We tutor in that language.

How is it graded?+

On the 9 to 1 scale, with 9 the highest. Individual papers are not graded; the grade comes from the total.

When are the exams?+

In the January, June and November series.

Is it more theory or practical?+

Evenly split - each paper is 50%. But the practical is a long, skills-heavy exam that rewards regular hands-on coding.

What's the difference between Computer Science and ICT?+

Computer Science (4CP0) is about programming and computational thinking; ICT (4IT1) is about applying software to produce solutions. The free assessment helps you choose.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?+
