Edexcel International A‑level Psychology YPS01

Online Tuition

Four modular units of unequal weight, statistical tests in every paper, a synoptic final unit, and an A* that lives in the last two units. We tutor unit by unit - social and cognitive, biological and learning, applications, and clinical - to the exact combination your child is taking.

How we teach Edexcel International A‑level Psychology at Tuition Highway

A simple four-step approach designed to build confidence, close gaps and improve exam performance.

01

Confirm the route

We confirm the syllabus code, exam series and paper route for YPS01. Everything else depends on this.

02

Find the gaps

A diagnostic against the syllabus topics tells us what's secure and what isn't, so we teach the gaps rather than the whole book.

03

Teach weekly, one to one

The same tutor teaches each week around school. Concepts build step by step, with the school's pace kept in view.

04

Practise like the exam

Past-paper questions begin early, followed by full timed papers marked against the published mark scheme.

Matched with a tutor who knows this syllabus

Expert, vetted Edexcel International A-level Psychology tutors who have taught the YPS01 specification. Past-paper work is reviewed against published mark schemes, so your child can see where marks are awarded and where they are being lost. UK-qualified teachers are available on request as a premium option.

Taught YPS01

Not "edexcel international A-level psychology in general" - this syllabus, this tier and these papers.

Reviews work against the mark scheme

Your child learns where the marks actually are, not where they feel they should be.

Built for online teaching

Shared whiteboard, worked solutions and lesson materials saved to review after the session.

Consistent across the term

The same tutor every week - and if that changes, we tell you first.

Edexcel International Psychology: four units, banked and resat across the year

The qualification is fully modular. Two IAS units and two IA2 units make up the full International A-level, each banked and resat toward the final grade. The units are unequally weighted, and the IA2 units carry synoptic assessment.

This qualification is modular and unevenly weighted. The heavier two-hour units and the synoptic IA2 papers drive the top end of the final grade.

What the YPS01 syllabus covers

These are the main syllabus strands your child is expected to cover. We teach all of them, starting with the gaps that are costing marks first.

Tuition stays aligned to the exact paper or unit structure, so revision time goes where the marks actually move.

Questions parents ask about Edexcel International A‑level Psychology

Which units does my child take for Edexcel International A-level Psychology?+

Four: Unit 1 Social and Cognitive Psychology and Unit 2 Biological Psychology, Learning Theories and Development at IAS, plus Unit 3 Applications of Psychology and Unit 4 Clinical Psychology and Psychological Skills at IA2.

Are the units equally weighted?+

No. Units 1 and 3 are worth 20% each, and Units 2 and 4 are worth 30% each. The bigger units are the two-hour, 96-mark papers.

How is the A* awarded?+

You need an A across the whole International A-level and at least 90% of the marks across the two IA2 units, Units 3 and 4, combined.

Is it modular?+

Yes. Each unit can be banked across sessions and resat; the better of the two most recent attempts counts toward the grade.

Is there a choice within Unit 3?+

Yes. Developmental psychology is compulsory, and candidates then study either criminological or health psychology.

Can my child use a calculator?+

Yes, and it is needed. At least 10% of the marks are mathematical, including statistical tests, with formulae and tables provided in the paper.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?+

We replace them - free, and with no argument - and hand over the unit-by-unit progress and known concerns so the new tutor continues seamlessly.

Can you help us choose between Edexcel and Cambridge Psychology?+

Yes. Both are strong international routes; the difference is structure - Edexcel's bankable, resittable, synoptic units versus Cambridge's papers-together model.
