Questions parents ask about IB MYP Physics

Is MYP Physics externally examined?+

Not by default. It is assessed internally against four IB Sciences criteria by your school. Year-5 students may optionally sit an external on-screen eAssessment.

What are the four criteria?+

A Knowing and understanding; B Inquiring and designing; C Processing and evaluating; D Reflecting on the impacts of science.

How does the 1-7 grade work?+

The four criteria contribute up to 32 marks and convert to a final 1-7 grade using IB boundaries.

Does MYP Physics involve practical work?+

Yes. Criteria B and C centre on designing and evaluating scientific investigations, so experimental skill is core to the grade.

What is the on-screen eAssessment?+

An optional end-of-course external exam of around two hours, externally marked by the IB, in the May or November session.

My child gets the answers but the grade is stuck - why?+

Usually because effort is concentrated on Criterion A. Criteria B, C and D carry three-quarters of the grade.

How is MYP Physics different from IGCSE?+

IGCSE is externally examined with written papers; MYP is criterion-based, inquiry-driven and mostly internal, with an optional external route.

What if the tutor is not the right fit?+
