Edexcel International A‑level IT YIT11

Online Tuition

Four modular units - two written, two practical - where students actually code for the web in HTML, CSS and JavaScript and build relational databases at a computer. We tutor unit by unit, to the exact combination your child is taking.

How we teach Edexcel International A‑level IT at Tuition Highway

A simple four-step approach designed to build confidence, close gaps and improve exam performance.

01

Confirm the route

We confirm the syllabus code, exam series and paper route for YIT11. Everything else depends on this.

02

Find the gaps

A diagnostic against the syllabus topics tells us what's secure and what isn't, so we teach the gaps rather than the whole book.

03

Teach weekly, one to one

The same tutor teaches each week around school. Concepts build step by step, with the school's pace kept in view.

04

Practise like the exam

Past-paper questions begin early, followed by full timed papers marked against the published mark scheme.

Matched with a tutor who knows this syllabus

Expert, vetted Edexcel International A-level IT tutors who have taught the YIT11 specification. Past-paper work is reviewed against published mark schemes, so your child can see where marks are awarded and where they are being lost. UK-qualified teachers are available on request as a premium option.

Taught YIT11

Not "edexcel international A-level it in general" - this syllabus, this tier and these papers.

Reviews work against the mark scheme

Your child learns where the marks actually are, not where they feel they should be.

Built for online teaching

Shared whiteboard, worked solutions and lesson materials saved to review after the session.

Consistent across the term

The same tutor every week - and if that changes, we tell you first.

Edexcel International IT: four units, two of them hands-on

The qualification is modular: two IAS units and two IA2 units make the full International A-level, each worth 25%. Two units are written theory papers; the other two are practical exams - coding for the web, and building relational databases.

What the IT syllabus covers

These are the main syllabus strands your child is expected to cover. We teach all of them, starting with the gaps that are costing marks first.

Tuition stays aligned to the exact paper or unit structure, so revision time goes where the marks actually move.

Questions parents ask about Edexcel International A‑level IT

Which units does my child take for Edexcel International A-level IT?+

Four: Unit 1 (IT systems, theory) and Unit 2 (coding for the web, practical) at IAS, plus Unit 3 (data and emerging technologies, theory) and Unit 4 (relational databases, practical) at IA2.

How much of it is practical?+

Half - Units 2 and 4 are three-hour hands-on exams. Unit 2 is coding for the web in HTML, CSS and JavaScript; Unit 4 is building relational databases.

How is the A* awarded?+

You need an A across the whole International A-level and at least 90% of the marks across the two IA2 units, Units 3 and 4, combined.

Is it modular?+

Yes - each unit can be banked and resat, with the better of the two most recent attempts counting toward the grade.

Is this the discontinued Applied ICT?+

No - Applied ICT was withdrawn, last assessed in 2019. This is the current International A-level in Information Technology, which is coding- and database-focused.

When are the exams?+

In the June series.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?+

We replace them - free, and with no argument - and hand over the unit-by-unit progress and known concerns so the new tutor continues seamlessly.

Can you help us choose between Edexcel and Cambridge IT?+

Yes. Both are applied qualifications; Edexcel leans into web coding and databases as practical exams, while Cambridge spreads practical skills more broadly across four papers. The free assessment maps which suits your child.
