Edexcel International A‑level Biology YBI11

Online Tuition

Six modular units, three exam series a year, and two written practical papers most families don't plan around. We tutor unit by unit - molecules, cells, physiology, ecology and the practical-skills papers - to the exact combination your child is taking.

How we teach Edexcel International A‑level Biology at Tuition Highway

A simple four-step approach designed to build confidence, close gaps and improve exam performance.

01

Confirm the route

We confirm the syllabus code, exam series and paper route for YBI11. Everything else depends on this.

02

Find the gaps

A diagnostic against the syllabus topics tells us what's secure and what isn't, so we teach the gaps rather than the whole book.

03

Teach weekly, one to one

The same tutor teaches each week around school. Concepts build step by step, with the school's pace kept in view.

04

Practise like the exam

Past-paper questions begin early, followed by full timed papers marked against the published mark scheme.

Matched with a tutor who knows this syllabus

Expert, vetted Edexcel International A-level Biology tutors who have taught the YBI11 specification. Past-paper work is reviewed against published mark schemes, so your child can see where marks are awarded and where they are being lost. UK-qualified teachers are available on request as a premium option.

Taught YBI11

Not "edexcel international A-level biology in general" - this syllabus, this tier and these papers.

Reviews work against the mark scheme

Your child learns where the marks actually are, not where they feel they should be.

Built for online teaching

Shared whiteboard, worked solutions and lesson materials saved to review after the session.

Consistent across the term

The same tutor every week - and if that changes, we tell you first.

Edexcel International Biology: six units, banked and resat across three series a year

The qualification is fully modular. Four theory units and two practical-skills units make up the full International A-level, each a standalone written exam that can be banked and resat toward the final grade. Practical skills are assessed on paper, not at the bench.

Questions parents ask about Edexcel International A‑level Biology

Which units does my child take for Edexcel International A-level Biology?+

Six units: Units 1, 2, 4 and 5 are theory papers, and Units 3 and 6 assess practical skills by written exam.

Is Edexcel International Biology modular?+

Yes. Each unit is a standalone exam that can be banked across sessions and resat to improve the grade.

How is the practical assessed?+

By written exam, in Units 3 and 6. There is no separate lab exam.

How is it graded?+

The full International A-level is graded A* to E; International AS is graded a to e.

When are the exams?+

Units are available in January, June and October.

Why do strong students still lose marks?+

Biology is marked on precise terminology and on interpreting unfamiliar data. Both are skills, not just knowledge.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?+

We replace them - free, and with no argument - and hand over the unit-by-unit progress and known concerns so the new tutor continues seamlessly.

Can you help us choose between Edexcel and Cambridge Biology?+

Yes. The biology overlaps heavily; the difference is structure - Edexcel's bankable modular units with written practical papers, versus Cambridge's papers-together model with a live lab exam.
